The Church of St-Germaine-des-Pres ~ and also some new Hotel Deals in the Latin District

The Church of St-Germaine-des-Pres is the oldest in Paris and dates from the year 542 when the original basilica on this site was built to house religious relics including a relic of the true cross.  Despite a devastating fire in 1794 some original features still survive.
A walk through the Latin district will soon bring you in contact with the oldest church in the city, the Church of St-Germaine-des-Pres. It has its origins all the way back to 542 when the church was built to house a relic of the true cross and developed in time to become a Benedictine abbey of some considerable influence. The church was devastated during the time of the French revolution, and most of it was burned out in 1794.

What you see now are the results of the reconstructive work carried out in the 19th century. A visit will give you the opportunity to explore its interesting history and discover many of its impressive features. It will also give you the chance to experience its striking medieval atmosphere, which even if it is not talked about by tour guides, you can certainly sense after some quiet moments inside.

Booking any of the reputable Paris city centre hotels will put you right in the heart of all that is best to see in Paris, but to stay stay near St-Germaine-des-Pres itself and experience life in the Latin Quarter our highlight promotion will let you do just that  -
