The Paris Metro Offers Convenient But Wearisome Travel ~ plus Midweek Hotel Breaks

I have said it here before ..... the simplest and easy way to see Paris is to make use of your own feet and walk.  A short stroll is all it will take to travel between many of the city's popular tourist attractions, and you get to pass through the vibrancy of Paris street life and the surprises that it can hold.

This way, there is more to see and you get to experience the atmosphere of the district you are in.  It is more enjoyable, less hassle and, let's face it, healthier in every sense.

Admittedly, you will need to take the Metro just for sheer convenience sometimes, but that can involve many stairs, long corridors, congested stations and a wearisome atmosphere.

Travelling on the Metro is mostly a routine, uneventful experience, but like every form of public transport you can come across some unpleasant incidents and occasional boorish behaviour.  The transport authority the RATP have made some recent efforts to mollify the worst of the mindless and inconsiderate carry-on, but I think it makes very little difference to the ignorant minds at which it is targeted.

Certainly, one thing you need to be careful of when travelling the Metro is your personal security.  Predatory petty criminals may be your travelling companion on any journey, and they are just waiting to take the opportunity to dispossess you of your property.

You need to be aware and alert.   Keep your bags close to you   -   shut and zipped  -   and be mindful of who may be standing close to you and how they are behaving.  Otherwise, you could quickly fall victim to the pickpocket brigade that constantly and freely inhabit the Metro system.

Be very careful if you want to use your smartphone on the Metro. In fact, don't if possible. These are a coveted item and it may be abruptly and violently taken off you.  It shouldn't happen, but it does.  In common with most European cities, low-life seem to have a special dispensation to casually commit their crimes without any real fear of retribution.  You may feel that you your feelings of self-worth would never see you reduced to being a mere statistic, but to the authorities that is all you would be  ..... even if you ever managed to figure in their staple collection of crime stats..  Which you won't.

But putting those grim thoughts aside, care and caution is key.  That way you shouldn't have a problem.  Instead, let's accentuate the positive. For the end of month we feature more savings and discounts from our Paris hotels deals courtesy of this recent promotion -
