Happy New Year ~ with New Paris Hotel Deals

It's the last day of 2012 and another year almost over. One could look back over what has happened in the last twelve months, but better, I think, to look ahead with a wish for happiness and health for ourselves and our families, and some little success along the way in whatever shape it comes.

With the new year comes more New Year resolutions. That can leave you in a quandary, because secretly you will admit that you will more than likely break most of them. Some years ago I sorted the problem by resolving not to make anymore New Year resolutions. I can now say that it is the one resolution I have managed to keep.

For everyone then, a wish for a Happy New Year and a Wonderful 2013.

That only leaves me then with the last promotion for 2012 which is for the latest hotel deals in this romantic city.

Happy Christmas from Paris Best Hotels

So Christmas is just a short time away, and for every family it will be a little different with each having a variety of cherished traditions. The pace can be somewhat hectic on the days leading up to Christmas Eve, and the steady rhythm in our daily routines gets adjusted to help us cope with the extra demands. But when all the tinsel and the last decoration is in place, we know in the end that everything is just as we had always wanted it to be.

The real joy of the festive season is the family coming together to share the joy of Christmas. It is a special time when those who are absent, but who we would dearly wish to be with us, are very much in our thoughts. Life is always changing, yet Christmas remains magical and the gathering place of our affection for those we hold close.

For everybody, a wish for a Happy and Wonderful Christmas for 2012.

This year nears its end, but next year Paris will be every bit as beautiful, exciting and welcoming, and just waiting for you, your family and your friends to pay a visit. Christmas Markets in Paris ~ also Current Hotel Promotions

Very soon, it will be time for a visit up to La Defense to see the annual Christmas Market - one of many throughout the city. The backdrop may be high-rise buildings, but the chalet style stalls can more than conjure enough of the seasonal feeling to get you right away in the mood.

The smell of mulled wine wafts in subtle enticement through the air, and I never hold back. My cup of mulled wine is my essential starter and my comforting accompaniment as I browse through an enormously varied offering of breads, cakes, sausages, cheese, kebabs and burgers. That's only the food, and a short list at that. Gloves, handbags, scarves and sweaters, Christmas decorations and kiddies toys abound in profusion and you are certain to find something to catch your eye.

The crowds, the colourful lights, the general buzz makes the whole thing a joy. It is simply wonderful to make an outing of the whole event, bringing the family along in tow as the build-up to the Christmas itself. If it's cold, strangely you feel the warmth of the occasion even more.

I am writing about La Defense because that is where my inclination takes me for my first visit this year to a Christmas market, but there are other excellent ones including those at la Trocadero and the Champs-Élysées. Additionally, at la Trocadero you could break-a-leg and really enter into the excitement of things with a whizz around the ice rink. Think of it  -   your chance to envelop yourself in the sheer joy of Paris, and possibly also plaster of Paris.

So much to think of and so much to see as you meander your way through the market with a vin chaud and a caramel apple. As a visitor something else you must think about ..... where are you going to stay if you are planning to visit the French capital at Christmas time?  To the rescue here with some money saving Paris hotels deals which should see you comfortably ensconced in an excellent hotel and at your ease to explore this beautiful city.  Also, here is another star offer that should interest you .......

The Paris Metro Offers Convenient But Wearisome Travel ~ plus Midweek Hotel Breaks

I have said it here before ..... the simplest and easy way to see Paris is to make use of your own feet and walk.  A short stroll is all it will take to travel between many of the city's popular tourist attractions, and you get to pass through the vibrancy of Paris street life and the surprises that it can hold.

This way, there is more to see and you get to experience the atmosphere of the district you are in.  It is more enjoyable, less hassle and, let's face it, healthier in every sense.

Admittedly, you will need to take the Metro just for sheer convenience sometimes, but that can involve many stairs, long corridors, congested stations and a wearisome atmosphere.

Travelling on the Metro is mostly a routine, uneventful experience, but like every form of public transport you can come across some unpleasant incidents and occasional boorish behaviour.  The transport authority the RATP have made some recent efforts to mollify the worst of the mindless and inconsiderate carry-on, but I think it makes very little difference to the ignorant minds at which it is targeted.

Certainly, one thing you need to be careful of when travelling the Metro is your personal security.  Predatory petty criminals may be your travelling companion on any journey, and they are just waiting to take the opportunity to dispossess you of your property.

You need to be aware and alert.   Keep your bags close to you   -   shut and zipped  -   and be mindful of who may be standing close to you and how they are behaving.  Otherwise, you could quickly fall victim to the pickpocket brigade that constantly and freely inhabit the Metro system.

Be very careful if you want to use your smartphone on the Metro. In fact, don't if possible. These are a coveted item and it may be abruptly and violently taken off you.  It shouldn't happen, but it does.  In common with most European cities, low-life seem to have a special dispensation to casually commit their crimes without any real fear of retribution.  You may feel that you your feelings of self-worth would never see you reduced to being a mere statistic, but to the authorities that is all you would be  ..... even if you ever managed to figure in their staple collection of crime stats..  Which you won't.

But putting those grim thoughts aside, care and caution is key.  That way you shouldn't have a problem.  Instead, let's accentuate the positive. For the end of month we feature more savings and discounts from our Paris hotels deals courtesy of this recent promotion -

The Church of St-Germaine-des-Pres ~ and also some new Hotel Deals in the Latin District

The Church of St-Germaine-des-Pres is the oldest in Paris and dates from the year 542 when the original basilica on this site was built to house religious relics including a relic of the true cross.  Despite a devastating fire in 1794 some original features still survive.
A walk through the Latin district will soon bring you in contact with the oldest church in the city, the Church of St-Germaine-des-Pres. It has its origins all the way back to 542 when the church was built to house a relic of the true cross and developed in time to become a Benedictine abbey of some considerable influence. The church was devastated during the time of the French revolution, and most of it was burned out in 1794.

What you see now are the results of the reconstructive work carried out in the 19th century. A visit will give you the opportunity to explore its interesting history and discover many of its impressive features. It will also give you the chance to experience its striking medieval atmosphere, which even if it is not talked about by tour guides, you can certainly sense after some quiet moments inside.

Booking any of the reputable Paris city centre hotels will put you right in the heart of all that is best to see in Paris, but to stay stay near St-Germaine-des-Pres itself and experience life in the Latin Quarter our highlight promotion will let you do just that  -

Disney's Paris Fantasy ~ with new Deals for Disneyland Hotels

Visit Disneyland Resort Paris and you will soon find yourself peering through the windows of Victorian buildings, admiring the archaic displays, perhaps feeling a bit puzzled by some of the business signs and certainly marvelling at the vintage transport that make up the traffic. Well, you are in Main Street, USA and a look around at the wonderful recreation of small-town America will leave you spell-bound.

Really, you have only come in the door, so to speak, with all the adventures of Disneyland Paris awaiting you, and straight away you are greeted by this impressive vista. Disney always put in the effort and it shows even down to the fine details of the Victorian facades along Main Street.

It is so inviting - you feel that you have stepped back in time, and the entire setting does everything to convince you that you have, in fact, been transported from the mundane present to a past fantasy. In a way, it sort of says: you're here now .. go and enjoy.

Without doubt, in Disneyland Paris there is so much to enjoy that once again it is our present promotion from our current Paris hotels deals and it is just a perfect idea and a wonderful choice for families who want to have some great fun and some memorable excitement while in Paris.

The Louvre Museum ~ and New Hotel Offers

It remains one of Paris's top tourists attractions and the place to see some of the finest art that man has ever been inspired to create.  That said, The Louvre can be at times a minor ordeal with the crowds, the heat and the sheer scale of the vast collections that are on view.

Aside from that, it really is worth it as these treasures are world renowned and represent the antiquities of diverse civilisations including Greek, Egyptian, Oriental, Etruscan and Roman.  As you can appreciate you really do need to leave a reasonable time allowance to visit the museum  -  three hours might just get you by at a minimum.  If you are trying to cut costs, keep in mind that you can visit for free on the fist Sunday of the month.  Naturally, the convenience of this may not always fall your way, but it is good to be aware of savings if you have the chance to avail of it.  Also if you are intending to visit a number of museums, you might consider buying a Paris Museum Pass.  Not only will it save you money, it will also get you past the long lines waiting to gain entrance to the most popular sights and museums.

For some extra savings try browsing through our
last minute hotel breaks in Paris.  That as they say is the genuine ticket, as is our present promotion for Louvre hotels ......

Sacre Coeur, Montmarte ~ and some more hotel deals

Notre Dame Cathedral has an inspiring beauty as it dominates the Ile de la Cite. You could say this is where it all started - Paris that is ....all the way back to about 250BC when the Lutetia settlement took centre stage on this island on the Seine. Its character evolved over the centuries to where we are today with this magnificent cathedral that seems so perfectly placed right in the very centre of Paris.

After you have paid a reverential visit and steeped yourself in its eventful history, you can easily choose to whizz along the metro to Abbesses station to explore Montmartre and another famous church, the Sacre Coeur. Here you have moved from the island to Paris's highest hill where you will gaze over some spectacular city views that truly make a memorable vista of this great metropolis. But the basilica in itself would be attraction enough and there is much to marvel at, chief among which is the Great Mosaic of Christ on the chancel vault.

But the entire Montmartre area is special. It is often said it has the feel of a French village with its alleys, narrow winding streets, stone stairways, enticing shops as well as many cosy pubs and restaurants. The atmosphere is so unique, you might just think: I wouldn't mind staying here.

And many people think the same. So much so that hotel stays in Montmartre regularly pops up in our special Paris hotels deals. And no surprise, here it is again .....

Socilaists Political Surge Continues ~ plus Luxury Paris Hotels Deals

If you are in Paris at the moment you will easily sense the intense election fever as we near Sunday's second round of legislative elections. Opinion polls are showing that former president Nicholas Sarkozy's conservative UMP party are set for another drubbing from the electors. They are still reeling from the recent failure of their presidential campaign, and with the increasing political uncertainty concerning their future are beginning to engage in some bitter infighting.

In the opposite camp, President Francois Hollande's Socialists look optimistically to an outcome that will gain them a complete majority in the National Assembly. If this happens, the Socialists can eschew coalition with other parties such as the Greens, and forge ahead unbridled with the implementation of Hollande's new policies.

This will all be of interest and concern to the French, but if you are just in the process of planning your trip to France, it will likely be of no interest to you. All will be over before you get here and you are unlikely to notice any difference. Perhaps that's just as well.

Basically, visitors care little about who is running the country as long as it does not adversely impact them such as in the form of increased tourism tax.  Let's keep it that way then and forget about the future political landscape and focus instead on something of more immediate interest  ....... a special hotel promotion to benefit you during your visit here.  In fact, there are two specifically  -  the first for last minute hotel breaks in Paris and the other and main offer for luxury hotels in Paris.

Hope you enjoy!

Tutankhamun Exhibition Paris ~ and latest City Centre Hotel Deals

June in Paris brings a steady increase in visitors  -  an influx that will only get bigger as we go further into summer.  Aside from the monuments, museums and standard attractions there are of course other events happening to catch your attention.

The one I want to mention in particular is the current Tutankhamun -  Paris Porte de Versailles exhibition.   This presents an incredible reconstruction of the great Pharaoh's tomb and its treasures. Visitors can relive the excitement of what was the most remarkable archaeological discovery of the last century, and explore ancient Egypt's past  - brought to life with this recreation of the King's tomb as it was found in Valley of the Kings  by renowned archaeologist Howard Carter back in November 1922.

The exhibition runs until September 1, 2012.

Beating the Eiffel Tower queues - and some great hotel offers

One of our popular features from our Paris city centre hotels is this post's headline offer for hotels near the Eiffel Tower. It is among the city's most visited attractions, and the question is often asked if there is any way around the long queues that can often taken the enjoyment out of a visit to the tower.

Well, with a little planning you can avoid the worst of it - but it does require a bit of strategy. First off, you need to make an early start; something that makes good sense anyhow if you are to get the most out of your day in Paris. What many people don't know is that you can purchase pre-paid tickets online. These tickets are for the elevator only and so you must pass on the option to use the stairs. But you also pass on the waiting crowds, and that is the good part. All you need to do is print your tickets at home, and make sure to arrive just before the 9.00 am start. This will see you making a lofty ascent while the terrain snaking lines of people wonder how long is it going to take to even reach the ticket desk.

Another option - this time using the stairs - is to queue for the south pillar or Pilier Sud entrance. This is a quicker and a shorter line. Not as quick, mind you, as buying an online ticket, but still reasonable and bearable in terms of wait-time. Again, you need to be there and in the queue before the 9.00 am opening. In all honesty, it's worth it ....... and for a little effort you save time in the long run.

You will see some incredible panoramic vistas of the city as you ascend the tower. You may also be able to see your hotel, and to make sure you do here is the offer -

Hotel Offers near the Opera Paris

Paris Opera are presenting some marvellous opera productions during the course of the year. These include La Fille du Regiment, les Noces de Figaro and Les Contes d'Hoffman which was Offenbach's last work. Any of these will prove a pure joy for opera lovers. But even if you do not have the time or the inclination to attend the opera it is still worthwhile to visit the Palais Garnier at place de l'Opéra. Every day, the opera house is open to visitors giving everyone a chance to appreciate the splendour of its sculptures, frescoes and the many ornate features that gild the elegant foyers, auditorium and striking grand staircase.

Included in our current promotions for Paris city centre hotels is this post's main feature for hotels near the Opera district.

Paris Weekend Breaks

American singer Mariah Carey and her husband Nick Cannon garnered some publicity when they renewed their wedding vows last Friday at France's greatest monumental icon, the Eiffel Tower.  The couple married in 2008 in the idyllic setting of the Bahamas and the famous singer has since given birth to twins.

Following a romantic tinged dinner in the lovely Jules Verne restaurant, the couple rededicated themselves in what was described as "an intimate ceremony"  -  one that was well-publicised and lavishly photographed.  Good for them.  Sometimes you need a quite moment.

And with that news, I hasten to say that you can do the same. How romantic it would be to take your dearest companion to the Eiffel Tower for a rededication of your love  -  and if the romance of the event was somehow missing, the meal at the Jules Verne would more than make up for any lingering disappointment.  It would be your choice entirely whether to blast loud on the details to publicise the occasion, or to opt instead for a quiet, intimate gathering with representatives of the world's media in attendance.

I am on your side either way.

To ease the path, you should look at some of our great deals for hotels near the Eiffel Tower.  If that is not enough, here is another fantastic offer to entice you  -

New Orly Airport Hotel Deals

Last Sunday's voting didn't sort the ongoing political arguments and challenges in France, and we will all have to wait for the second round of the Presidential Election vote to find out if President Nicolas Sarkozy can hold on to power or has to give way to his socialist rival Francois Hollande. We are in for some interesting times ahead, particularly if the incumbent Sarkozy loses and we have to all then embrace Hollande's contrasting approach to the current European financial debt crisis.

Let us not be too overwhelmed by all these grave political issues. Instead, moving on to pure escapism, here is our latest promotion from our many Paris hotels deals. This time it is for hotels near Orly Airport -

The Champs-Elysees and the wonderful Elysees Palace

The Champs-Elysees has enduring popularity and acts like a magnet for tourists. It also relates to one of our current promotions for hotels near the Champs Elysees. From one of these fine hotels you can stroll the famous avenue and its surrounding area at your leisure.

You can't miss the wonderful Elysees Palace as you explore. It was built in 1718 and was once home to Napoleon's sister, Caroline. Now it is the official residence of the French President, and unfortunately, it is not open to the public. However, that doesn't stop you from giving an enthusiastic wave in its direction on the chance that President Sarkozy may notice and call you in for tea. Don't be disappointed if this doesn't happen.

For a more certain outcome, you can bet on some good value with our feature offer for hotels in St. Germain.

Pompidou Centre and the Paris Museum Pass

Paris is a city with an amazing variety of museums. One of the principal ones visitors come to see is the avant-garde creation that is the Pompidou Centre. Recently refurbished, it dates frrom the 1970's and has some zany elements such as the escalators that run through transparent tubes and make up one intriguing part of the building's singular facade.

This cultural complex has performance halls, cinemas, shops, restaurants and of course, the major attraction - the National Museum of Modern Arts. Out front on the plaza you can see a plethora of street artists displaying a mix of talents that include musicians, mimes and fire-eaters.

If you intend to visit quite a number of museums, a Paris museum pass known as the Carte Musée et Monuments de Paris can be purchased at tourist offices and museums to allow you the benefit of some savings. These will give free access for adults to the major monuments and museums in and around Paris - about 60 locations in all. It's also a great time saver as the long lines for paid admission to many musums can be frustrating, and you get to skip all that. Options are for 2, 4 or a 6 day pass - a choice to be influenced not only by the time available, but also your levels of endurance. Children under 18 years have free entrance to most museums. For more information check out their offical website here ... the Paris Museum Pass.

Find some genuine Paris charm in the beautiful Luxembourg Gardens

Fancy the notion of joining some of the seasoned regulars in the Luxembourg Garden for a game of boules or chess under the moderating shade of the chestnut trees? Even if that's a pass, it is nice to be just a quiet observer as you stroll though these endearing gardens.

It is extremely popular with Parisians. It has its own captivating atmosphere that is subtly calming, serene and mediative. In here, its a little world of its own, and it is just nice to share it for a little time.

If you have had the benefit of booking one of our Paris city centre hotels offers you will find yourself just a short stroll away from this charming attraction.

Disneyland Paris gets ready to celebrate its 20th Anniversary.

Disneyland Paris Resort celebrating its 20th anniversary with a spectacular new nighttime show at the enchanted Sleeping Beauty Castle. The Disney Dreams show brings all your favourite Disney characters to life.
Something special is happening in Disneyland Paris. It's celebration time for Disneyland Paris Resort which marks its 20th anniversary from April with a newly styled evening parade and a spectacular nightime event centered on the Sleeping Beauty Castle.

Disney has brought the best talents of its technical and creative specialists together to create the 'wow' factor in its newly imagined Disney Dreams Show which uses the enchanting castle as a backdrop for displays of pyrotechnics, water screens, dancing fountains, laser lights and vivid, colourful projections - and fire .... lots of fire!

The water screens and the castle will serve as an enormous visual canvas for an interwoven depiction of famous scenes from the Disney story book, all enhanced by a vibrant new musical score.

Also a new nighttime parade, Disney Magic on Parade, will add more excitement and enjoyment for park visitors. The expectation and hope is that crowds will linger longer and prolong their visit to Disneyland Paris further into the evening. With this in mind, the park opening hours are being extended to allow everyone enough time to experience all the new creations that the people at Disney have conceived. It should prove a delight for all the family.

The gentle delight of Paris Cafes

Now we're in March, the real chill is gone out of the weather, even if today it's a little cloudy and some light rain is falling. It's not really a bother. This time of the year we expect rain. When its wet, Parisians just get on with it and tourists will always find plenty of interesting indoor attractions to grab their intention and keep them out of the rain.

If your on the move around the city and the rain is falling heavy, it is actually a gentle delight to slip into some pleasant cafe for a dry interlude. Find a nice table and with a coffee and cake or your favourite snack, you can just sit back at your ease while outside you observe the rain pattering away on the pavement. It is strangely comforting.

Everyone in Paris has their list of favourite restaurants, but I like many will judge on atmosphere and price. And with price it is important to remember that the charge in a Paris cafe can vary on where you choose to sit - cheaper at the bar, a little dearer at a table, and dearer still outside at a terrace table. It will also often depend on the location of the cafe.

Perhaps it is a surprise that I talk of atmosphere and price first and not the food. It would seem that this would be the first consideration, and the deciding criterium. Indeed, that is the case. But the point is that good food is a given and the expected standard in French cafes. If the food wasn't good, a cafe wouldn't even make it on to my favourites list or anybody else who possessed a respect for a decent meal.

By and large the fare in many cafes is fairly standard, and you can't go wrong. Hop from one to another and the espresso, croissants and pains au chocolat will taste as good ... and probably much the same. The plats du jour and accompanying deserts are a real treat, and you can tease your way from cafe to cafe looking at the different variations until you find a dish that appeals to you at the moment. You can be confident that it will be nice, and likely good value as well.

But be warned. You will get just what you are asking for. And if you are looking for rip-off prices glammed-up in the guise of pretense, or passable food plausibly presenting itself as innovative cuisine, you will find it at its seductive, slut-style best promising to please, but ultimately certain to disappoint. With some experience you will spot it a mile off.

Alas, one can't stay cafe bound all day as attractive a proposition as that might sometimes be. No. Duty and responsibility calls in the shape of a text to remind me that I am to review a new promotion for some excellent hotels near the Champs Elysees. Which of course is no problem. After all, it isn't really work when you enjoy what you are doing.

The rain has stopped. It is dry outside. No more excuses. Speedily then to our current deal .........
