As August ends, we will find the city returning to its usual normality with the end of les vacances. Back will come the horde of happy holidaymakers rejuvenated after their annual break from Paris.
Once again, the streets will be crowded, the metro packed and all the shops and cafes that had closed will reopen to take up where they left off before they deserted those of us who never got to go away. The tourists who have got to experience an unusually serene city for the past few weeks will wonder what has happened, and why everything suddenly seems so busy.

you want to experience what Paris is like when it is quiet, then you
must wait another year. But let's hope you come before that, possibly for a stay in one of our excellent but cheap Paris hotels.
